Skopje is a capital of the Republic of Macedonia and deserves all attributes of a modern and contemporary, cultural, educational, economic and historical centre. It is located in the middle of the Balkan Peninsula, spreaded on both banks of the river Vardar.
The world still remembers the catastrophic earthquake in 1963 in which Skopje lost many urban symbols but its reconstruction became a synonym of international solidarity. The hospitality of the city is traditional. Mother Theresa, the greatest humanist of 20 century, was born in Skopje. The city is mixture of European and Oriental culture. The stone bridge, the old Skopje bazaar, the amphitheater, aqueduct, Skopje fortress, fresco painting and wood carving along with the modern architectural constructions gives Skopje an impression of a European city.
